Lemlem by Liya Kebede as featured on J.Crew
March 26, 2012 § 1 Comment
This is a lovely top and a wonderful story about supermodel Liya Kebede’s efforts to create opportunities in her home country of Ethiopia. We’ve also included below a selection of looks we love from the current Lemlem collection. Beautiful, chic fashions that are making a positive social impact.
About Lemlem
Supermodel / actress and former World Health Organisation’s Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Liya Kebede discovered that traditional weavers in her native country of Ethiopia were losing their jobs due to a decline in local demand for their goods and wanted to do something about it. Recognizing the beauty, quality and historic significance of their work, Liya started Lemlem in 2007 as a way to inspire economic independence in her native country and to preserve the art of weaving
Today, Lemlem, which means to flourish or bloom in Amharic, is thriving. Thank you to those who support this handcrafted collection of women’s and children’s clothing, while helping preserve an ancient art form.

Neneh Cherry Back in Studio

If you were old enough to remember, you probably remember Neneh Cherry’s Billboard hit, Buffalo Stance.
Many of us probably wondered what happened to her, but Neneh has been around doing what every artists aspires to do – “make music for making music’s sake.” In her interview with COS, she dishes on what’s coming next along with sharing about her adventures over the years of recording and touring with her family band, cirKus.
cirKus has a great music collection of quirky, indie vibes that are a must-have for your collection.
Her forthcoming album “The Cherry Thing” is slated for release in June 2012 on Norwegian record label, Smalltown Supersound. We’ll be sure to sample it when it’s out.
The Cherry Thing track list:
1. Cashback (Neneh Cherry)
2. Dream Baby Dream (Suicide)
3. Too Tough To Die (Martina Topley-Bird)
4. Sudden Movement (Mats Gustaffson)
5. Accordion (MF Doom)
6. Golden Heart (Don Cherry)
7. Dirt (The Stooges)
8. What Reason (Ornette Coleman)
Designer Davida at AMFW 2012

What we love about this year’s collection from Nigerian designer Davida is the very feminine and flattering cuts where prints, peplum and other accents are inventively placed in a way that doesn’t overwhelm, but instead imparts a unique and sensual style to every piece.

Lapel scarf @ Heritage 1960

We were instantly intrigued by this leather and tweed lapel scarf while shopping on the Heritage 1960 online store. The design is deceptively understated and yet offers these seemingly complex and devilishly stylish options. We can imagine this pairing well with your favorite Brooks Brothers shirt, Burberry trench or J.Crew sweater.
